It was an excellent experience. Friendly service, great food and a good list of beers and wine. I had the yard burger and it was incredible! I'll be back for the peanut butter Porter since they were out this time.
Good food. Good service. High prices. As you'd expect
This was 3 friends meeting up over the holiday to catch up ...but conversation was often on hold while flagged our server down. Based on the reviews, my experience does not appear to be entirely unique. You'll probably get good food no matter what, even if you have to send your server back to correct it a couple times. I debated on 2 it 3 stars.
We spent our third anniversary at black cow fat pig this past Saturday evening. It was a delightful experience over all! The staff was determined to delight us and they did; from sweet little heart glitter sprinkled on our tablecloth to complimentary champagne, and an amazing dark chocolate dessert (probably cheesecake, but so very chocolatey I couldn’t tell - it was soooo good!) on a plate with Happy Anniversary drizzled in chocolate - how sweet is that?
Wow wish I had something positive to say other than the bartender was nice. Told us 20 minutes to be seated on a Friday night at 6:45 and it was busy. Ordered wine, got seated soon after.....and there we sat for over 22 minutes with not even a glance from wait staff. Got up and left, told the hostess who of course didn't care and didn't say a word. Passing through from Omaha and it was the recommended local favorite. Not ours!!! Never had to leave a restaurant for not being acknowledged ever in my life!
I understand that mistakes happen. I have put my own time in as a server and I try to set my expectations according to the venue but this is a reasonably "high end" for the area and our we partook in drinks, a bottle of wine, appetizers and dessert. Around the holidays I enjoy the opportunity to "pay it forward" in tipping. But, there was very little effort to apologize. It wouldn't have taken much. Offer to comp one of our $3 ice creams at the end. Send the manager over to say a few words. Instead, we received our bill and were overcharged... So we waited again to have it corrected. I politely mentioned the overall experience to the hostess as we walked out the door. She shrugged her shoulders.
I would give 5 stars except that we came early for happy hour and to finish watching the NE game and I ordered an Old Fashioned, which no one informed us was not included in the happy hour pricing. This greatly upset my sweet husband as his only fault is his “thrifty” nature. They did try to make it right by giving us a $5 gift certificate, but he was still unhappy. However, he will get over it and I am sure we will go back. Also, my baked potato was served with no butter or sour cream and it was not warm enough to melt the butter when I did get some. But overall, a delightful evening thanks to this lovely restaurant that we are so blessed to have in a little town like Norfolk!
The food here was great. Unfortunately, that only describes a portion of the experience. The staff Was less so.We had to ask someone to kindly send our server over no less than four times, . either because of errors or because it had been sometime since you returned (it was not busy on his Tuesday night). I feel that we remained polite and understanding through the meal.
